St. Augustine, Fla. (Oct. 12, 2020) – The Betty Griffin Center ‘5K Run for Peace,’ which had been postponed from April to November 21, will now be a virtual 5K event for the nonprofit organization.

“After much debate and consideration, and to ensure the health and safety of our staff, vendors, volunteers and race participants, the Betty Griffin Center staff, board of directors and race directors decided hosting a virtual event would be the safest way to proceed,” said Betty Griffin Center CEO Joyce Mahr. “We hope that we’re able to be back to a normal in-person event in 2021.”

The Run for Peace Virtual 5K can be run anytime between November 21-22, 2020, and Mahr says the agency will be hosting fun contests and giving out prizes all weekend throughout the event. For more information, supporters should follow the Run for Peace 5K Facebook Page at https://www.facebook.com/runforpeace5k.

Those who have already signed up for the run will be automatically transferred to the virtual 5K, and all participants will still receive a Run for Peace 5K T-Shirt and a Finisher Medal.

People who want to support the event can register at www.runforpeace5k.org. Prices and deadlines are:

Adults – Price: $25.00 Race Fee Registration: Price increases to $30.00 after Oct. 31

Students (under 21) — Price: $15.00 Race Fee Registration: Price increases to $20.00 after Oct. 31

“We also hope people will spread the word and help us continue to have a successful race and make a difference for the survivors we serve,” Mahr added.

The event benefits the Betty Griffin Center – a nonprofit agency that provides free emergency shelter and other support services for residents experiencing domestic or sexual abuse in St. Johns County.
